Ever have a sharp-jagged pain shoot up from one of your limbs? This could be the time you burned yourself on the stove-top or stubbed your toe on the curb. This is the feeling I experience when I hit the "not-so-sweet" spot on my knee. When bending down, it's the point at about 1/4 bent (approx. 70-80 degrees) when I get a screaming pain coming from the danger zone. Oh yeah, and I've learned a lot about flexion/extension lately too, especially in regards to ROM (range of motion for all you non-knee folks). Apparently it's huge in the knee rehabilitation world and everyone becomes infatuated with the number. It can be a indication of failure or a criteria for discharge, but ultimately it's just a measure of how much you can bend your knee. Regardless, this 1/4 bent knee pain is awful. It makes bent-knee activities like snowboarding, horseback riding and surfing extremely painful.
MRI was yesterday. Oh how I miss laying in a noisy tube for forty-five minutes. During my first MRI, at the young age of 12, I got to listen to music while the instrument blasted an ensemble of weird racket. This time around, I was only offered ear plugs and a bulb to squeeze if I started to panic. Go figure. |
