As promised, Dr. Wright hooked me up with a cortison injection. She said it would take a few days to kick-in but I felt the difference almost immediately. The most noticable thing is the decrease in dull-aching pain after activity. It was greatly needed, and worked amazing during our latest and greatest trip to Mt. Whitney last week:
At the summit, I popped the big question to Claire, and she said YES! It was an amazing moment, I was so excited (and exhausted....and light-headed) that I could barley breathe! A 14k feet engagement will do that!
It was an amazing trip; truly an experience worth any pain my knee could ever give me. I ascended the mountain with Claire and a bum-knee and descended floating on air with my new fiance!
The cortisone shot worked great, but most of the pain relief came from my trekking poles. If you're an avid hiker and have knee issues, get a pair of "disco sticks"! Not only do they take the weight of two arms off your legs, but they're very stabilizing and relieve a huge burden of blunt impact. I'll elaborate more on the advantages of trekking poles later, but for now my soul is filled with love and my knee troubles are a distant thought.
