Claire and I have toyed with the idea of a European tour for a while now. The culture of another continent was inspiring, but my true motivation was the Via Alpina, a “bucket-list” hike in Switzerland that I’ve always dreamed of doing.
Think of it as the Pacific Crest Trail of Europe, the Via Alpina starts in Monaco and meanders through 7 other countries before terminating in Slovenia. Weaving through the Alps, some of the best sections are in Switzerland, as you can imagine. The green mountainsides, the cows and the snow-capped peaks provide the quintessential backdrop for amazing hiking. We spent 4 days hiking nearly 40 miles of the trail, a feat my new knee was ready for. Granted, it got sore but hey, this is the Swiss Alps…this isn’t a walk in the park.
