That changed drastically yesterday, and like a flick of a switch my ambitions and outlook were renewed with a fresh breath of life!
This rejuvenation came in the form of a new mountain bike; a beautiful brand new Santa Cruz!
A little background: last year Claire and I were pinching pennies to pay for our wedding. We didn’t have much money at the time so I sold my mountain bike to help with the accumulating costs. Later, when Claire learned of this, she promised me a new bike once things settled down. Besides, she's had her eye on my current mountain bike for a while now, so she was looking for an upgrade as well.
For months, I test rode several different brands and models. My hope was to have a bike to propel my recovery post-op once I was able ride. With Christmas looming and presents to buy, it looked like it wasn’t in the cards this year. Then came Black Friday. We had just finished waiting an hour in line at Kohls and were ready to be rid of the crowds. I asked if we could cruise by the bike shop and see if the bike I test rode was still there. My eyes lit up when I saw it and Claire started talking with the owner. She knew this was an opportunity for a deal so she started in with her magic. In the end, we walked out with a bike at almost 30% off retail! I felt like a little kid on Christmas day; it was just what I wanted.
While it sits in the corner I’m currently limited to drooling over it, but I have never been so motivated to work on my recovery and see what this bike can do!
