We packed up and headed to Big Bear Lake for a weekend of rest and relaxation over the Veteran's Day weekend. The plan was simple; enjoy a few days at the cabin, hike everyday and enjoy my remaining days of ambulatory bliss.
The "Josh's Knee" world tour 2014 had its final show, and it was quite an event. Over 3 days, we found some great day-hikes, and covered some beautiful trails. The fresh mountain air was exactly what I needed. Knee pain was in full effect though, and reminded me of its lingering presence.
A tip for all you out there on the fence about surgery: forgo the pain meds for a week and see how you feel. This is my scenario since I was ordered to halt all my medications 1 week prior to surgery.
Sometimes, under heavy medication, we lose sense of what our pain really is. The true feeling gets numbed by various oral medications. Granted, I only take Alieve for my knee pain, the lack thereof has been significantly noticeable. So if you think you can tolerate pain, try doing it without pain relievers.
So here I am, staring down the barrel of a procedure that is less than 2 days away. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't feel an impending sense of fear and anxiety. Everyone has been helpful and kind though, and I even got a nice farewell at work. I appreciate all the support but to be honest, I can't stand to talk about my damn knee anymore. Hell, I don't even feel like writing about it right now so I think I'll stop right here.
