I had a very uneventful follow-up appointment with Dr. McBride yesterday. Not that I was expecting fireworks or flash-bangs, but it was a very casual and low-key experience. We went over my post-op x-rays, which looked gruesomely awesome (see below). He checked my range of motion and asked if I had any issues or questions. I didn’t have anything eventful for him either. The implant looked good, the scar healed nicely and there wasn’t anything unusual or unexpected. I guess uneventful is a good thing.
He also removed my bandage, revealing my latest battle scar. Of note: he mentioned that the bandage over my scar was expensive, about the price of an iPad. Wow, if I’d have known that, I would have put it up on eBay or Craigslist.
Other than that, he was very impressed with my recovery and the progress I’ve made so far. Of course my first question was, “When can I hop on the mountain bike”? His answer was simple: go slow, be safe and let pain be your guide. And with that, we were out the door. He wanted to follow-up in a year, stating that 80% of the healing occurs in the first 3 months and the rest at 1 year.

See ya in a year doc!
