Last week I took a resistance band around my ankle and did some extension exercises, similar to a heel slide. This activated a whole new ensemble of muscles that were shaking violently in strain. It just goes to show that there's plenty of other players in the muscle recovery game. My hope is these slacker muscles will shape back up and improve my squat. In the meantime, the squatting pop is still annoying apparent. My doctor said it is my ITL band rolling over the implant. He suggested some stretches (actually, he said "go watch some YouTube videos") that I hope to implement. What really shook me up was his opinion that most recovery occurs in the first 2 years. In other words, if it doesn't resolves itself in the next year then it probably never will. This was quite an awakening; I gotta get my act together for the new year!
After a knee replacement, you're given a regime of leg workouts and told to focus on quad strength. Okay, well I've been focused for over a year now and my quads are pretty well developed. So shouldn't this be the end of the physical therapy journey? Bending down is still a harrowing task and it feels as though a muscle group is missing...whimpering somewhere in the shadow of the almighty quadricep and hamstring.

Kate, sorry for the delayed response but so happy to see you're out skiing! Don't worry too much about over-doing it because you're definitely doing what you love.
