After a long bout of contemplation, I finally made an appointment with my doctor today. It's been a few weeks since I injured my knee playing basketball at a company picnic; something I've constantly regretted since then. A little background on what happened:
When your supervisor needs a 5th person for a pickup game, you can't really say no right? Ignoring my reservations, I jumped in and hit the court running. I scored a couple lay-ups and had a steal, which put us up in the game. It was a heated game, until tragedy struck. While jumping for a loose ball, I landed on my right knee and heard a pronounced "snap". It immediately swelled up and I knew I was done for the day.
You can read all about the history of my knee problems (see "my journey") so it wasn't surprising that something was immediately wrong. Over the next few days, I iced and rested but still had a throbbing pain centered on the outside of my right knee. I didn't understand exactly what was wrong but knew that an MRI was the only way to find out.
Fast forward 3 weeks later, here I am. I'm not too keen on my primary doctor. I asked for an MRI but he sent me to X-ray. The films showed the deterioration of my lateral compartment so he referred me to a rhumatologist. It wasn't the referral I was looking for, but I figured I'd let the process work. It's a very disheartening feeling when you're in pain and don't have a reason. This isn't my first time at this, but I'll keep pushing to get the answers I want.
