What's the best cure for a hangover? At the Akin household, it's a stiff cup of coffee and a long hike up the mountain. We headed to Mount Woodson yesterday in hopes of clearing our heads and burning off some Halloween candy.
Things are getting busy heading into the final stretch, and I knew this would be my last trip up the mountain before I went under the knife. With that, I ditched the trekking poles to gauge a true baseline of my pain levels during the hike and hopefully establish a reference to how my knee used to be.
It was a painful hike, but in a good way. The pain was focused where it should be, not in the surrounding areas and not in my other knee. It was like re-reading a book that you already know the ending of. I'm happy there were no surprises though.
When Claire and I got to the top, we took a moment with each other. We reflected on the dozens of time we've done his hike before and anticipated our next summit, with a new knee and a lot less pain.
See ya soon Woodson.
